What are we going to do when water becomes scarce?

It's a question that sends a little chill down me every time. I grew up in the north east. Water conservation was not something that was on our minds and we had the half hour showers to prove it. One summer we went to California to visit family during a drought. That was my first introduction to water shortages and how they affected peoples lives. I went back home with a new awareness to a problem that's eerily invisible to too many people. If you look even deeper it just gets worse. Most of the world doesn't have the luxury of our water conservation. Many struggle to just have subsistence.

I've been looking for a good way to introduce my friends to the problem of water shortages for a long time. Everyone needs to be involved if we ever hope to solve these problems.

This essay starts with a thorough introduction to the problem. It then includes solutions that everyone could and should apply to their everyday lives to slow down and hopefully stop the coming crises of water. It's empirical without being filled with jargon. This is an essay I will be sharing to spread the cause of water conservation.

For all of our sake, I hope you do the same.

Water in the West The Scary Truth about our most Precious Resource Lucinda Sue Crosby Reviews

This book was a an easy read with some interesting information that most people wouldn't think about. Water is a need for all live and people forget that fresh (non-salt) water is a limited or expensive resource.
Before I read this book, I have viewed several documentaries on television about the water shortage in the West. And then I wanted to know and understand more about it. This highly researched and well written book has answered my questions that I had regarding water shortage in the West. And there is much detailing in this book about the causes of this, what is happening now and what may happen in the future. Then the author offers some solutions that could really help this problem beginning with water agencies and then the consumer.
The tips on water conservation are so helpful in this book that I implemetted them into my own home and I DO NOT live in the West. Even if one does not live in the West, the water shortage concerns ALL of us, not just those in the West.

Highly recommend this book to all!
This is a wonderful and well researched book. I feel far less ignorant concerning water in the west, and far more empathetic toward those who actively voice their water concerns. I can't over emphasize how readable, absorbing and alarming this book is. It is a must read for anyone curious about the water supply of the west.
The warming climate in the west has already taken it's toll on a short supply of water and has become endangered. Texas and the Colorado River have already suffered from a serious drought and the concern about this crisis still grows.

Lucinda Sue Crosby "Water in the West" is a great resource that tackles this crisis head on. It teaches us, guides us, and is a great learning tool about the Water Crisis in the West. This is a book that any one can read an apply to their everyday living, it is packed with so much insightful, intelligent, and useful information, as well as some solutions the author has provided in her writing. Crosby put her vast knowledge into this book to educate us on this crisis which is a great help that now I know I have more information and knowledge myself. Big thanks to the author for writing such a fantastic book and sharing her expertise. 2 thumbs up!
The key to overcoming a national crisis is adequate preparation. It is alarming to learn that we face a real water shortage in our lifetime. The national focus has been more on oil conservation, which is a valid concern. However, since we can't last for much longer than a few days without water, our society should be more mindful of how and why we need to start conserving water today. This intelligently written, insightful essay is a must read for anyone who cares about having enough water for our children and grandchildren in the future.
I came to this piece as someone who has been somewhat of an environmentalist and conservationist and yet, this piece highlighted in a clear and concise way the community effort that will be required if we hope to have good, drinking water for all. Ms. Crosby offered some clear action steps the average citizen can and should take to mitigate the coming storm. What I was most impressed with was her ability to evaluate the solutions to the upcoming/current water crisis and see the unintended (and sometimes negative) consequences of some of those solutions. Her message is both clear and persuasive - Water in the West (an Overview) should serve as a blueprint for individuals, towns and water treatment plants to identify and fix the problems with our water supply - before we reach a tipping point and it becomes too late. This book is a must read for anyone who cares about their water.
